Program Info

PCC’s Early Childhood Education program prepares you to become a productive, caring and responsible teacher of young children (birth to age 5). Classes emphasize child development skills in the areas of language, social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. They also focus on cultural diversity among children. You will become familiar with theories concerning child development and ECE and will participate in many group discussions and hands-on activities that you can apply in the preschool classroom. You will learn from qualified faculty members who believe in the success of each ECE student.

Grants, Stipends, Scholarships

The T.E.A.C.H Scholarship is available for Early Childhood professionals working in licensed settings and pursuing higher education. This scholarship covers up to 90% of tuition, along with a supplies allowance, paid study time, and bonus incentives for completing classes successfully.

The College Opportunity Fund (COF) is used by the state of Colorado to pay a portion of the total cost of undergraduate degrees for Colorado residents attending Colorado public institutions. For the 2022-2023 school year, the COF stipend is $104 per credit hour. COF is not considered financial aid. Students eligible for in-state tuition can receive the stipend every term that they take eligible undergraduate courses, and have not met the 145 credit hour life time limit.

Colorado Merit Aid
The state of Colorado allocates funding for students who have achieved high academic success. Students must be enrolled in 6 or more credit hours and be a Colorado resident. Please check with the Financial Aid Office on current requirements.

Colorado Student Grant (CSG)
The Colorado Student Grant program is designed to assist students with financial need with their educational expenses. You must be a resident of the State of Colorado and must demonstrate documented financial need. The maximum award for the 2022-2023 academic year is $3,500 for full-time students. You must be making satisfactory academic progress. Funds are awarded to early applicants who meet the financial aid deadline of May 1st. All other applicants are awarded until the funding is exhausted.

Work Study, Working While Still Enrolled

The College Work-Study Program is designed to offer jobs to students who are not eligible for need-based funds. Full-time and part-time students are employed for 10-20 hours per week in areas that relate to their academic and career goals. Funds are provided by the Federal Work-Study Program and the Colorado General Assembly. To be eligible for work-study, you must meet these basic requirements:

  • Must have a completed current FAFSA on file with PCC
  • Must be awarded and eligible to receive financial aid
  • Must be actively enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at PCC
  • Cannot have a bachelor’s degree
  • Must be in a financial aid-eligible program
  • A current FAFSA on file and complete with the school
  • Enrollment in 6+ credit hours for every semester they wish to work during
  • Academic good standing (Having a GPA above 2.00, Completed more that 67% of all credit hours attempted, Must be within 150% of credits necessary to complete current declared major)

All work-study students will earn $15.00 an hour and be paid through direct deposit. This is set up at the same time as the background check.

Program Overview

Semester 1
Students choose two courses to gain an understanding of early childhood education concepts in preparation for this role. Course choices are:

  • ECE 1011 - Introduction to Early Childhood Education or ECE 1031 - Guidance Strategies for Young Children

And one of the following:

  • ECE 1125 - Intro to Infant/Toddler Lab Techniques
