American Board
About
Founded in 2001 by the US Department of Education, American Board is a non-profit online teacher certification program designed to offer a competency based alternative path to the classroom. American Board provides career changers with a quick and affordable route to becoming teachers. American Board's online teacher certification program is self-paced and includes robust online tutorials but requires no additional college coursework.
American Board helps communities supply their own teachers by providing a path for local community members who hold a bachelor’s degree to get trained, licensed, and secure a job teaching in their local school.
American Board’s vision is very simple – your community, your teachers.
American Board’s program is self-paced, which was so important for me because I was working full time and had side jobs. Also, I was able to use the installment payment plan which helped with my tight budget. In this day and age, being able to complete an education program and finish without debt is rare, and this worked for me.
